Melanotan 2 (MT2) is a synthetic analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), a peptide hormone. It is an injectable peptide hormone that promotes tanning. It non-selectively binds to four melanocortin receptors: MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R.
“Non-selective” is the whole reason. Because MT-2 acts on multiple receptors simultaneously, one compound can produce multiple effects at once:
